The Symposium
(Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 8:00 AM-4:30 PM)

The Symposium will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, at the Hueston Woods Lodge and Conference Center. We encourage all medical physicists, physicians, dosimetrists, therapists and technologists in our region to attend.

The program will consist of a presentation by a keynote speaker, a series of selected short talks by students, residents, and young physicists, an award ceremony, and a final presentation by a senior physicist or other senior professional. Selection of the short talks will be based on current issues of interest in radiation oncology, diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, radiation safety, radiobiology, biomedical engineering, or administration. The objective is to provide the attendees with an introduction to current research as well as current information with respect to imaging and therapy research as well as current professional information with respect to pathways to professional degrees.

We have applied for 6.0 CAMPEP approved continuing education credits for this program.

Spring Symposium Talks and Presentations

We will have a featured presentation - The Honorary James G. Kereikas Keynote Lecture (speaker to be determined) during our Spring Symposium.

The speakers for the selected short presentations will be from our medical physics trainees, including undergraduate students, graduate students, post-docs, residents, and all other non-board certified medical physicists from within our Chapter. (Membership in the AAPM is not required, and participants who presented at past ORVC Spring Symposia are also still welcome.) A panel of judges will score each of the 15-minute presentations, with awards being given for the top three. The 1st place award will include an honorarium of $300. The 2nd and the 3rd place awards include honoraria of $200 and $150 respectively. All selected symposium presenters will receive a travel grant of $100. Speakers not selected will be automatically entered for a Poster Session to be shown during the Meet & Greet. A panel of judges will be appointed by the Chapter Executive Committee to independently decide the outcomes.

NEW THIS YEAR!

The school associated with the 1st place award winner will take home the OHINKY trophy until the 2015 Spring Symposium!  Check the ORVC website for pictures of the OHINKY trophy a new tradition for our chapter that includes OHio, INdiana, and KentuckY!

Abstract Submission

We will accept abstracts until March 7, 2014. In addition to the OHINKY competition, ANYONE may submit abstracts for poster presentations.  Those of you who interact with students, please forward this email and encourage students to submit. Even undergraduates are welcome. We want a minimum of ten abstracts for the speakers at the meeting. If there are more than that number, the ones not selected to speak can present a poster if they wish. All speakers get $100 for travel expenses, and the top three presenters will receive additional monetary awards. Abstracts should be on a single page word document and should be sent to Bryon Murray.
